F*** Yeah Buddy Holly!

A blog to show love for the late GREAT Buddy Holly and all his endeavors. Feel free to contribute anything you have to offer :)

songfordrella:

My good friend Roger Rowley, the lead in the Buddy Holly Musical, interviews Graham Harrison, who has a badass Buddy collection.

This is the video that the person in the last post mentioned, it’s pretty amazing, hope y’all enjoy! :)

Buddy Holly and the Crickets had first appeared on the Sullivan show in 1957, singing two songs and making a favorable impression on Sullivan. He invited the band to make another appearance in January 1958. The band was received so well that Sullivan was forced to invite them back for a third appearance. Holly’s response was that Sullivan didn’t have enough money. Film of the performance survives; photographs taken that day show Sullivan looking angry and Holly smirking and perhaps ignoring Sullivan.

This is not telling the whole story here, Holly told Sullivan that “they didn’t have enough money” because initially Sullivan told them not to play “Oh Boy!” b/c he thought it was too risque to perform on TV, mostly cuz of the lyrics: All my life / I’ve been waiting / Tonight there’ll be no hesitating”.
Holly (being the badass that he is lol) said that he had already promised a lot of his friends back in Texas that he would perform that song and he’s not going to cut that line out. Sullivan, getting upset that he was stood up to, tried to sabotage Buddy’s performance by having one of his workers pull out the plugs from Holly’s amps thusly making his guitar virtually inaudible. Classy guy eh? Lol

Here’s an interview with Buddy of decent length with Pat Barton, I believe from 1958. Enjoy :)

Buddy Holly - I Guess That I Was Just A Fool

<3 I ADORE Buddy’s lower register….I really just adore his voice in general, lol. I love how he changes his tone so seamlessly for conviction at the perfect times. The kid was a BEAST. :)

I don’t know the full story behind this one but if I were to guess, I’d say this was for a fan, here’s another one of those delightfully “modified” versions of That’ll Be The Day :D
